De OG's zijn bedoeld om diverse actoren samen te brengen, zoals landbouwers, onderzoekers, adviseurs, bedrijven, milieugroeperingen, consumentenbelangengroepen of andere organisaties, en op die manier innovatie in de land- en bosbouwsector te bevorderen. Door verschillende OG's samen te brengen in het NUTRI-KNOW project wordt de volledige waardeketen van nutriëntenbeheer (veehouderij, opslagsystemen, verwerkingstechnologieën, kunstmestproductie, transport en toepassing) behandeld en geoptimaliseerd.</p><p>De projectmethodiek bestaat uit vijf verschillende stappen:</p><ol><li>Gegevensverzameling en -analyse van alle resultaten van de betrokken OG's (meta-database)</li><li>Verschillende analyses voor het vaststellen van de huidige situatie (beleid, landbouwpraktijken, behoeften en uitdagingen)</li><li>Vertaling van de kennis in een taal die duidelijk is voor het brede publiek (vb. landbouwers, stakeholders, studenten, ...)</li><li>Verspreiding en communicatie van de praktijkkennis via kanalen die worden geraadpleegd door landbouwers</li><li>Interconnectie van landbouwers en andere stakeholders binnen de EU met de oprichting van een Community of Practice (CoP)</li></ol><p>Ten slotte zal het project, met alle kennis die is opgedaan tijdens de uitvoering van NUTRI-KNOW, een Results Amplification Methodology (RAM) ontwikkelen die zal dienen als richtlijn om projectresultaten van de verschillende OG's effectief op te schalen en te verbreden.</p><p>Algemeen vormt Biogas-E een brug tussen beleid, onderzoek en stakeholders in de biogassector. Binnen het project zijn de hoofdtaken van Biogas-E: communicatie en disseminatie, het verzamelen van relevante data in een meta-database, het opstellen van beleidsaanbevelingen en het mee oprichten van een Community of Practice (CoP) rond nutriëntenbeheer. The OGs are intended to bring together multiple actors such as farmers, researchers, advisers, businesses, environmental groups, consumer interest groups or other NGOs to advance innovation in the agricultural and forestry sectors. NUTRI-KNOW will build accessible and practice-oriented knowledge on the experience and outcomes from 12 EIP-AGRI Operational Groups (OGs) from four member states (Spain, Italy, Belgium and Ireland) regarding circular bioeconomy and nutrient management. By bringing multiple OGs together in the NUTRI-KNOW project, the entire value chain of nutrient management (livestock, storage systems, processing technologies, fertilizer production, transport and application) is covered and optimized.</p><p>The project methodology is divided in five different steps:</p><ol><li>Data collection and analysis of all the outcomes of the engaged OGs (metadatabase)</li><li>Multi-approach analysis to establish a solid baseline of the current situation (policies, farming practices, needs and challenges)</li><li>Consolidation and translation of the knowledge in a language that can be easy to understand for farmers and practitioners</li><li>Delivery and transfer of the practice-oriented material created in the communication channels most consulted by farmers</li><li>Interconnection of actors and territories with the creation of a cross-border Community of Practice (CoP)</li></ol><p>Finally, with all the knowledge gained during NUTRI-KNOW execution, the project will develop a Results Amplification Methodology (RAM) that will serve as a guideline to upscale and broaden project outcomes effectively in any thematic of interest.</p><p>In general, Biogas-E forms a bridge between policy, research and stakeholders in the biogassector. The main tasks of Biogas-E within this project are: communication and dissemination, collecting relevant data in a meta-database and creation of policy recommendations and a Community of Practice to</strong> demonstrate novel and cost-effective biomethane production solutions and pathways, deemed essential to achieve the European Green Deal and climate and energy targets for 2030 and the net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, and to increase the market up-take of biomethane related technologies. Het project duurt twee jaar (en vier maanden door verlenging) en start begin januari 2022.</p><p><strong>English version:</strong></p><p>The application of digestate as fertilizer remains a challenge in Flanders and Turkey. This challenge is a burden for the business model of biogas plants in both countries. The BioDEN project aims to create extra revenues for the biogas sector via developing a technology cascade approach for an integrated enhanced biogas production and efficient recovery of nutrients (N, P, K) as (novel) bio-fertilisers from digestate. <br /><br />The target of the project is to increase the value of digestate by focussing on different elements: (i) enhanced biogas production via anaerobic digestion (AD), (ii) ammonia recovery via stripping and scrubbing, (iii) phosphorus recovery via precipitation and adsorption and (iv) integrated value chain assessment, including pot trials and scenario analyses. Although some of the processes already receive attention in research and in industry, effective linking of the processes to obtain a successful cascade is still missing. <br /><br />Concretely, the BioDEN-project will result in (i) 10-20% more biogas (at constant input) compared to standard current practice, due to reduced ammonia inhibition, release of bio-available organic matter and high organic loading rates, (ii) an increase in CH4 content of the biogas by 3-5% due to CO2-stripping, (iii) optimised processes for the recovery of nutrients into novel (ammonium citrate, ammonium bicarbonate) and known (ammonium sulphate, struvite, calcium phosphate) bio-fertilisers. <br /><br />The BioDEN consortium is composed of 6 partners carefully selected by the project coordinator, Biogas-E (BE). It involves a balanced expertise composition of 3 RTOs and 3 Association Organisations (AO) from Flanders (BE) and Turkey. Innovation and research activities will be carried out by KU Leuven (BE), UGent (BE) and UMARMARA (TR) Universities, each specialised in different aspects of the full BioDEN concept.
